Have you ever randomly met a friend or a relative while on vacation? While it’s possible they were stalking you, and that they followed you to your holiday destination, there’s a simpler explanation. It was just one of those coincidences in an ever-smaller world.
Two (or more) events aligning perfectly without any deeper meaning is a common occurrence. With so many things happening around us every single second, it’s no wonder that sometimes you might see two people wearing the same shirt, or that you might share a birthday with someone you met.
But some coincidences are so perplexing and so inexplicable that you start questioning reality itself. They stop being a mere curiosity, an interesting factoid you hear and go “huh, that’s pretty cool” and instead start giving you legit creeps.
If you like to get spooked, be sure to stick around. Here are 5 spooky coincidences that will blow your mind.
MARK TWAIN
Many have tried to predict the exact date of their own demise, but nearly all such attempts have failed. It only makes sense; there is no way to know when the grim reaper decides it’s your time to go… or is there?
Mark Twain, the famous American writer, was a true literary genius. That’s not all though. He’s also one of the few people who have managed to foretell the day of their death. How so?
Mark Twain was born during the 1835 appearance of Halley’s Comet. As it turns out, nearing the end of his life, he remarked that since he was born when the comet came, it’s only natural that he dies when it reappears. In his words, “It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don’t go out with Halley’s Comet.” Sure enough, in 1910, a year after making the comment and on the exact day when Halley’s Comet reappeared, Mark Twain succumbed to a heart attack.
Could Twain see into the future? Did he have a crystal ball? Well, most likely not. He just happened to, well, guess the exact day of his death. Though it may be hard to believe (and kinda spooky if you ask me), there’s nothing more to it. It was just a coincidence, and coincidences happen.
THE SIMPSONS
For the past 30 years, the Simpsons have been entertaining viewers of all ages… and also predicting the future with eerily razor-sharp precision.
Some of the predictions include foreseeing the discovery of a famous math equation, predicting that FIFA would face a major corruption scandal, and, most impressive of all, jokingly implying that Donald Trump would become president (in an episode released in 2000!).
Are the producers of the Simpsons part of a secret organization controlling the world from the shadows? Is that how they know exactly what will happen? No, that’s not the case, at least I hope not! The most likely explanation is, again, that all these eerily spot-on predictions were mere coincidences. With more than 700 episodes and a stupidly huge number of plot lines, it’s no surprise that some elements present in the show happened to manifest in real life. Just imagine how many plot lines never even came close to becoming reality! Still, some of the “predictions” might seem a bit too accurate.
MAN STRUCK BY LIGHTNING 3 TIMES
Do you believe in curses? If not, how do you explain the curious case of Roy Sullivan?
Known as one of the unluckiest humans in existence, Roy, as he claimed, survived 7 lightning strikes. That’s 7 more than most of us! What’s more, his wife has also “experienced” Zeus’s wrath once.
But how is that possible? How did Roy get struck by lightning 7 times when getting struck once is in and of itself extremely rare? Was poor Roy really cursed? Well, as it turns out he probably wasn’t. With nearly 8 billion people living on this planet, it’s statistically likely that at least once a case like Roy’s will occur. In other words, the fact that one man was hit by lightning 7 times is a simple coincidence, however bizarre, unfathomable, and creepy it may seem.
MAN WHO SURVIVED 2 ATOMIC BOMBS
In the history of humankind, only two atomic bombs have ever been dropped on civilian targets. The first was the so-called “Little Boy,” which the US dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The second, nicknamed “Fat Man” was dropped only 3 days later on Nagasaki.
Now, imagine you were so unlucky that you happened to be on a business trip in Hiroshima during the first bombing, and after narrowly escaping death you returned to your hometown Nagasaki only to have to live through the same nightmare again. Well, you don’t have to imagine anything, because that’s precisely what happened to Tsutomu Yagamuchi, a Japanese marine engineer who survived both bombings.
Of course, Yamaguchi’s story is a coincidence, but that doesn’t make it any less spooky!
SEPARATED TWINS
Tales of twins separated at birth are as old as time, but what about twins separated at birth that went on to lead identical lives?
That’s the story of two twin brothers from Ohio who lived in separation for the first 39 years of their lives. When they finally reunited, boy did they have a lot to talk about. Their catch-up talk quickly turned spooky, though, once they realized that they shared much more than just genetic code.
Both twins were named Jim, irrespective of one another. They both had a brother Larry and a dog named Toy. Both Jims married a Linda, and both marriages ended in divorce. They both then remarried a Betty. Finally, they both had a son named James Allan.
It almost sounds like a fairy tale, but the story of Jim and Jim is 100% true. It’s also 100% a coincidence but a coincidence so bizarre and spooky that it’s sure to haunt you in your dreams!
